Planting

The Power of Planting

Once your garden has been landscaped Plans & Plants can offer a complete planting service. Planting should really be the 'icing on the cake' for your garden and should complement the design. This aspect can seem a little scary for some. For most people, planting can be a 'hit or miss' affair! An impulsive buy at a garden centre is often not a reliable and well thought out addition to your border.

Planning your planting is the best way to achieve an overall look that will mature collectively. Site, aspect, soil conditions and of course your own thoughts on how you want your garden to feel should all play a part when you consider planting. A good planting scheme should incorporate structure, texture, colour amd year round interest. However, we are all first to admit we do not want to be slaves to our gardens and low maintenance is often high on the priority list!

You have to always appreciate that plants do grow. An obvious point to make but one that people often forget! Some plants will eventually outgrow their allotted space and sometimes there is nothing else for it but to whip it out and start again. Perhaps that particular variety does not take kindly to being pruned or it may have become a poorly specimen that will never make a good recovery. Rethink that area and perhaps try something a bit different?

Meadows and prairie planting have become very popular but can be difficult to manage.

Leaving sections of lawn to grow longer can provide an interesting contrast to more formal planting and provides a habitat for wildlife especially insects and butterflies.

Plans and Plants can help and advise on the best planting for you and your garden. You may just need to consider re-planting one area or border, or you may want a complete overhaul of the garden. Different planting can completely alter the feel of a garden and can also be the answer to problem areas. Good planting can screen an eyesore or give privacy from neighbours. Well thought out schemes may include a specimen to give strong focusto an otherwise 'flimsy' border or ground cover to hide ugly manholes or keep the weeds down in a spot that's difficult to get to.
